1989: The Beach Boys begin a national tour with Chicago. The tour is historic because Brain Wilson appears at several dates, marking his first concerts with his old band since 1975.

This Day in Rock History - May 26th

1967: It was 58 years ago today… Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play!

What many consider the greatest rock album of all-time, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, goes on sale in Britain. A week later it will be released in the States. It is the first Beatles LP to have the exact same track listing in the US and in the UK.

It will top the album charts during the entire "Summer of Love.”

 1978: As part of the documentary, The Kids Are Alright, being assembled about their career, the Who perform a special concert at London’s Shepperton Film Studios.

It will prove to be the last time the group performs with drummer Keith Moon.

1986: Mickey Dolenz joins Peter Tork and Davy Jones to perform as the Monkees for the first time in years. The group kicks off their tour at the Concord Hotel in the Catskills.

Instead of a reunion, might it have been better to call it a rerun?

1977: Jefferson Starship is banned from playing a free concert at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The group responds by recording “We Built This City.” Whether that's a good or bad thing is still being debated.

This Day in Rock History - May 22nd

1958: A day for which Jerry Lee Lewis would probably want a “do-over.” It was on this day that Lewis arrived in London and introduced his new bride to the press. The press did some digging and found out 1.) Myra Gale Lewis was 13 years old 2.) She still believed in Santa Claus and 3.) She was Jerry Lee’s third cousin. The ensuing scandal effectively derailed his career in rock and roll.

Jerry Lee will lay low for a while and then stage his first comeback as a country singer.
