1978: As part of the documentary, The Kids Are Alright, being assembled about their career, the Who perform a special concert at London’s Shepperton Film Studios.

It will prove to be the last time the group performs with drummer Keith Moon.

This Day in Rock History - May 22nd

1958: A day for which Jerry Lee Lewis would probably want a “do-over.” It was on this day that Lewis arrived in London and introduced his new bride to the press. The press did some digging and found out:

1.) Myra Gale Lewis was 13 years old

2.) She still believed in Santa Claus

3.) She was Jerry Lee’s third cousin.

The ensuing scandal effectively derailed his career in rock and roll.

Jerry Lee laid low for awhile and then staged his first comeback as a country singer.

1994: In a marriage made in rock & roll heaven (or at least the brain of a great PR agent), the self-proclaimed “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson marries the daughter of the true king, Lisa Marie Presley in a ceremony so private, the press doesn’t find out for months.

The marriage lasts until January of 1996.

1965: Leaving a concert in Long Beach, California, the Rolling Stones limo is virtually attacked by female fans. So many of them scramble onto the vehicle’s roof that it starts to collapse. The band attempts to support the roof with their hands. The limo speeds away, leaving fans to fall onto the road.
